About Us

Bruce R. Byers

Hi! I’m Bruce R. Byers, and I’m one of the founders of Two Guys Walking Golf Courses.

A long time fan of chasing the little white ball, I’ve been playing since I was 12. The first clubs I had were my mom’s Patty Berg Specials. Later, she got frustrated with me always using her clubs and had my Dad get me a set of Sam Sneed’s. They were way too big at first, but saw me through college.

I managed to beg, borrow and “liberate” a mixed set of irons and woods until I bought my very first set of new clubs at a local pro shop – Greg Norman Spalding Tour Editions, blades and persimmon woods. Wow, I was walking in tall cotton!

Growing up in New Mexico we learned to play on Muni courses, and of course we walked. Cart golf was for old rich guys. We would get out early, try to hustle some caddying jobs, then play sundown rates till we couldn’t see the ball anymore.

Just as there is a rhythm to a good swing, there is a rhythm to playing a round afoot.  Sometimes it is the blind shot to a well-guarded green, or marveling at the sheer beauty of a five hundred and twenty yard downhill par five, followed by a devilishly tight par three, but there is something you just don’t get from the seat of a golf cart.

I am in my early sixties now. I don’t hit the ball as far as I once did and I don’t have dreams of playing on the tour, but I love golf!

Sometimes you can’t do anything right, some days it all rolls your way, sometimes you hit it sweet right into a tree, and sometimes the tree steps in the way of your ball and puts it two feet from the cup.

As Harvey Penick says “ If you play Golf, you are my friend!”

Hi, I’m Dave Emanuel.

I didn’t start playing golf until my mid-late twenties. I was into motocross and semi extreme skiing, and I thought golf was for “those other guys”. Those guys chased a ball, only to find it, and then hit it again and try to put it in a little hole.

Once I started playing, however, I was quickly hooked because it was so, so hard! No real natural ability here!

I had always prided myself on mastering what I took on, but here it is 35 years later, and I’m still trying. I’m far from being a master!

Golf is a great game for instilling humility!

A “good walk spoiled”, to steal a phrase, can certainly describe a lot of my rounds. But then again, you have that special day, that special shot that brings you back to the greatest game ever! Even if the golf portion of the round was a loss, the walk through some of the most beautiful places on the planet is always amazing!

Stay tuned as we walk and talk. Hopefully, we can give you some insights into the courses we play through our reviews that will either entice or dissuade you!
