Los Altos Championship 18, Winter Review
Go or No Go?
I play this course a lot and really enjoy it. It's worth the time for an easy, stress-free walk and hopefully a stress-free round also!

Pros
The pace was good for the crowded parking lot!
The bunkers have plenty of sand, a little unusual for Albuquerque munis
The carne adovada burritos in the restaurant are really good, hence the 4.7 rating
Easy flat walk, but challenging holes with lots of dog legs
Cons
The bunkers rarely get raked, there are limited rakes, some bent from frustration
A little crowded, but not terribly
Some loud freeway noises on start of the round and toward the back nine
Once again, the practice green was a mess
Greens a little bumpy due to the fall's aeriation
Can be very windy due to the canyon location on certain days

Los Altos is one of three 18-hole municipals in Albuquerque Metro. It was Albuquerque’s first municipal, built in 1960. Due to the many left to right doglegs, the course favors a fade. There is also a 9-hole executive course on site that will be reviewed at a later time. A Pro Shop, Banquet Hall and Restaurant compliment the course, along with PGA Professional’s Ed and Chris Moya who are available for lessons. Today, the 18 was quite the enjoyable winter walk, with temperatures hovering around 58, and the sun shining brightly! With winter conditions taken into consideration, the fairways were in decent shape with a mixture of Bermuda and Bent grass. Tee boxes were a little beat up, a few in the shade requiring a hammer to tee it up! The greens, although a bit bumpy, were surprisingly fast and in good condition. The practice green was rough with several large, filled sand holes. The driving range was open and filled with winter golf enthusiasts! Tee times are easy to come by, as long as you plan several days ahead. Even though the course doesn’t play long, there are several holes where length is a challenge, including the par 3 13th, measuring at around 227 from the whites and 237 tips! All yardages are available in the Los Altos photo section with a score card image. Los Altos is the flattest of the local municipals, a very enjoyable walk and easy on the body! See Los Altos photos for green and cart fees. Enjoy!
